For this week's drawing I decided to draw, in my opinion, one of the most beautiful women ever--Vivien Leigh. The first time I saw Gone With the Wind, I immediately fell in love with her character, although she isn't easy to love. She's obsessed with a married man, pouty, self-righteous, and just down-right bitchy! I love it! If you can sit through the 5 hour long movie, I would most definitely recommend doing so.
So when I first started this drawing, I was kind of nervous that I wasn't going to be able to achieve it the way I wanted to. I have a tendency to rush through drawings since I am quite the impatient person but I told myself, "Rachel, you gotta take it slow...you gotta make this drawing good!" Overall, I think the final product came out really well. It looks like Ms. O'Hara, which is the ultimate goal. The entire drawing took about an hour or so to complete, which is a lot longer than I would ever want to spend time on a drawing this simple. Her hair alone took me about 20 minutes but it turned out to be my favorite part.
I actually really enjoy how the drawing looks right now! It's unfinished yet interesting. Also, the lips look awesome, no?
Super happy at how I went about drawing her hair! I think doing it this way made the final product look more appealing.
Almost finished!
So between picture 3 and this one, I added a little more hair, outlined her lips with a darker red color, added more blush to her cheeks, added the top of her dress (obviously), and darkened her eyelashes.
Updated review of my Prismacolor pencils: So far I am really enjoying working with these pencils. I used a good amount of the colors in this drawing alone. I think the only thing I have a complaint about (which is not even really a complaint) is that the lead runs down fast. And since the lead in these pencils is so soft, I need to be careful about what kind of sharpener I use--and I don't even have a sharpener right now! I think if I had sharpened my pencils, this drawing wouldn't of looked as messy. So tip to all you readers who are new to using these pencils: get a sharpener!
