Eye'm having Trouble: Drawing #1

Alright, so, I was really excited to start my first drawing this week...but now that the drawing is finished, I feel very defeated. Okay, maybe I shouldn't start off that way but I am being completely honest. Let me start at the beginning though so I can paint (or rather draw) you a picture of what has happened leading up to me drawing this week.

So I had planned on drawing and uploading earlier this week but I was having Blogger difficulties, first off. Then, with school work and work-study, I was even more swamped with other things that needed to be done. Last night, I finally decided I was going to sit down and draw. There's something therapeutic and relaxing about just drawing but for whatever reason, I could not concentrate. I was 10 minutes into the drawing when I started feeling negative towards how it was going. I kept going back to ~Polaara's drawing for reference and while I should have only used it for reference, I kept comparing mine to hers. My final product isn't the same as hers, but it is similar because I really did enjoy her take on an eye.

I promised you readers last time that I would tell you my funny story about me drawing eyes. It's not so much funny to others as it is to be, but I still get a chuckle at it. Ever since I was a kid I've loved to draw eyes. It is said that eyes are windows to the soul and I've always admired that statement. I said in my first blog that I love doodling and whenever I'm in class I feel compelled to draw eyes. It's my go-to drawing in a way, I guess. Believe me when I say I draw eyes continuously. Sometimes I feel like I even do it subconsciously. I really wish I could prove it to you guys right now but if I find some papers with eyes on them I will upload them with this post!

In progress drawing--I think I should've left the pupil this way instead of blur it out for the final drawing.

As I said before, I am not completely happy with this drawing but I do know that I will do better next time. I'm still getting used to using these colored pencils and although I love them, there are a lot of things I need to learn about them so I can progress with these drawings.

For next time I will be taking inspiration from *akaLilith's drawing of Scarlett O'Hara (Vivien Leigh) from Gone With the Wind. This may seem like a huge jump from this week to next week but I am going to try and push myself and show you guys what I feel like I can do. Gone With the Wind is one of my top 10 favorite movies of all time and Vivien Leigh is absolutely gorgeous so I'm sure I'm going to have a lot of fun drawing her.
